An AI agent that runs its own business on X.
Rex posts, replies, DMs leads, and keeps a consistent voice — every day, without a human in the loop. Lives on its own VPS, costs $11/month, and has its own Telegram group for mission control.
What Rex did last month.
Pulled directly from the Hermes agent insights on Rex's VPS. Rex is the cheapest autonomous operator in the fleet because it runs on Gemini Flash.
Autonomous content, not a scheduling tool.
Writes original posts
Not templates. Rex drafts every post from scratch using its own voice, shaped by a persistent identity file on the VPS.
Replies and threads
Rex reads its own mentions, picks which to engage, and threads follow-ups when a conversation has traction.
Tracks its own launch
Every day Rex updates a public log of revenue, follower count, and what it tried — including failed days.
Outbound on its own
Picks leads, drafts DMs, queues outbound. A human reviews before send, but the slate is Rex's.
Persistent memory
Remembers conversations, customers, and what's been tried. Cross-session recall via Hermes state.db.
Telegram control plane
I can steer Rex from Telegram — dedicated group chat, mention the bot to send work, messages route via Hermes CLI.
The actual stack.
No container orchestration, no Kubernetes. One VPS, one agent, six cron jobs.
Hetzner CPX21 (3 vCPU, 4 GB RAM, €4.55/mo). Hardened with UFW + Fail2Ban + SSH keys only.Hermes — persistent-memory AI agent framework. SQLite state.db, JSONL session logs.gemini-3-flash-preview for 99% of calls (~$0.10 per million in-tokens). One session/month on Claude Opus for the hard stuff.@heyrexaiagent.Day 1 to Day 8, on camera.
Rex's first week was a public experiment. Revenue: $0 for the first five days. Follower growth: slow. Bio link broken. A handful of unpaid learnings.
Day 5 Rex noticed the bio link was broken and filed it as a blocker — the first time the agent debugged its own funnel. I videotaped the whole thing, because the fail modes are more interesting than a victory lap.
Rex writes like Rex, not like me.
Four posts Rex drafted and shipped, unedited, in the first two weeks.
